After the fight, the sun rises upon the devastated Cross Academy. While taking in the rays, Yuki and Zero talk about all that has happened to them. Meanwhile, Kaname prepares to leave the academy. What does Zero tell Yuki? And which path will Yuki choose?

Yuki understands the position she has been put in, and remembering Kaname’s words, “Do what you have to do,” Yuki decides that as Guardian, she must protect all the students at the academy and fight Rido. Even the Night Class is behind this seemingly reckless decision. However, Yuki and the others are helpless against Rido’s overwhelming strength. After Rido captures Yuki, Zero appears before her.

In order to protect the academy, the Headmaster confronts the head of the Hunter Society while Rido is still on the rampage. In the meantime, Ichiru pays a visit to Zero and shoots him with the Bloody Rose gun. While Zero lies in agony, Ichiru talks about how much suffering he went through in the past. He expresses how he felt about his parents, how he felt about Zero, and how he felt about Shizuka. Ichiru draws nearer to Zero and tells him something shocking!

Prelude to the Battle

Absorbing Kaname’s blood finally revives Rido. The vampires all suspect this, and an unsettled mood enshrouds the Academy. The Headmaster calls for an emergency evacuation of the Day Class students, as Rido’s servant vampires begin attacking the students. On top of that, the Hunter Society gives orders to destroy Zero, and the Hunters invade the academy. The situation continues to worsen for Yagari and the Night Class, and when Yuki sees what’s going on around the academy, she tries to save Sayori.

Revival of the Mad Emperor

Yuki now understands who she really is. Worried about Zero, she sneaks out of her room to find him. Zero cannot accept Yuki’s new self, and he points the Bloody Rose gun at her. Meanwhile, Kaname approaches the coffin that holds Rido, the body of the vampire possessing Senri. Kaname recalls his final moments with his parents and the unforgettable events of ten years earlier. Kaname pushes aside Ichiru, who was standing guard over Rido’s coffin, and stabs a sword into Rido’s body.

Yuki wakes up a vampire, and her memory of her childhood returns. She now remembers her father, her mother, and her brother. Despite her mixed emotions, Yuki cannot suppress her vampire instincts. Senri returns to the Academy, but upon having a confidential talk with Ichiru, he becomes noticeably different from before. The insolent Senri goes to see Ruka who has been locked up in her room since she got word of Kaname’s new girlfriend. Nothing happens thanks to Akatsuki and Takuma, but the Night Class starts to think something strange is going on with Takuma, who appears to have hidden secrets. Yuki’s nightmares reach their peak, and she directs the overwhelming stress at Zero.

Kaname asks Yuki to be his lover. The Night Class guards begin accompanying her everywhere, and Yuki cannot hide her embarrassment. Why does Kaname go to such great lengths to protect Yuki? Yuki’s visions of blood become even more intense, and she ends up fainting. While she is sleeping in the nurse’s office, Ichiru shows up. Regardless of Hanabusa’s mistrust, Ichiru approaches Yuki, holding something in his hand.

Yuki is continually haunted by visions of blood. Nevertheless, she is determined to find out about her past from Kaname, but he repeatedly evades her question. Zero sees Yuki looking troubled and goes to the Moon Dormitory by himself. Zero asks Kaname whether he has something to do with Yuki’s past or not, and Kaname responds by revealing his hatred for Zero. The two of them end up in a fight in which Zero is wounded, and in the pool of blood, Kaname utters the unthinkable..

While the Night Class is at the Aido family’s vacation home, Yuki, driven by her desire to stop hurting Zero, tries to regain her memory of the past and becomes haunted by even more powerful visions. Seeing Yuki in distress, Zero takes her to the Hunter Society’s headquarters, hoping that the society’s reports from the past might jog her memory.

The Night Class goes to the Aido family’s vacation home during the long break, but Hanabusa decides to stay at the academy because he suspects Kaname had something to do with Shizuka’s death. Hanabusa leaves his dormitory to stay with Yuki and Zero, who also remained at the academy. Hanabusa voraciously eats Zero’s cooking and listens to Yuki talk about her feelings for Kaname. In the meantime, upon Hanabusa’s request, Akatsuki looks through documents to discover if anyone bears ill will toward the Kuran family.

Yuki has a lot on her mind after almost being kissed by Zero. She asserts that she will not speak to Kaname until he admits to Zero’s innocence. While walking around town with Sayori, she comes across a lost little boy. She tries to take the little boy back to his mother, but she loses consciousness when he gives her a kiss on the cheek. In the meantime, the Aido family hosts an evening party, and Zero is ordered by the Hunter Society to monitor it..

After Shizuka Hio’s death, peace is restored at the academy. As usual, Yuki is busy with her duties as Guardian when Zero, who has been gone for quite some time, comes back. Yuki is relieved that Zero is back safely. However, Zero is blamed for Shizuka’s murder, and he becomes the target of the Senate. Yuki is upset with Kaname when he refuses to attest to Zero’s innocence.

Crimson Chains

After suffering a mortal wound, Shizuka quietly dies in Ichiru's arms. Meanwhile, Yuki and Zero try to find where Shizuka may have gone, but Zero is constantly thwarted by his Level E seizures. Zero manages to locate Shizuka, only to be met by the sight of Ichiru drinking her blood as her body dissipates. All of a sudden, Zero is incapacitated by a violent seizure. Yuki arrives to find them gone, with only the signs of a struggle left behind.

Vow of the Pureblood

Yuki learns that Maria's true identity is Shizuka, the pureblood vampire who bit Zero and turned him into a vampire. With this information, Yuki accepts a deal from Shizuka and offers her blood in order to save Zero. Zero intervenes, but because he became a vampire by Shizuka, he is bound to her as her servant and is thus unable to attack his master. Yuki's pleas brings Zero back to his senses, and in a desperate attempt, he shoots his own leg with the Bloody Rose and turns the gun on Shizuka.

Maria's masked servant is none other than Zero's twin brother, Ichiru, whom Zero has not seen since their separation long ago. Yuki and Zero are busy dealing with the Day Class students who are chasing after the Night Class students more fervently than ever due to the upcoming dance. In the midst of it all, the Headmaster asks Yuki to show the transfer student, Maria Kurenai, around the academy. Due to her weak constitution, Maria seems very harmless, but the Night Class is repeatedly affected by her actions, and even Zero is suddenly compelled to aim the Bloody Rose at Maria on sight!

There is a rare commotion in the Moon Dormitory when the Night Class gets word that Takuma's grandfather will be visiting. Takuma's grandfather, nicknamed Ichio, is an important figure in the vampire world and is feared by many. When Ichio arrives at Cross Academy, he tries to suck the blood of Kaname, a pureblood, which is considered a taboo. An altercation is avoided, but it's just the beginning of more troubles to come.

The following day, Yuki becomes suspicious when Zero does not come to class. She learns from Yagari where Zero is being restrained. Concerned about Zero, whose body is rejecting the Blood Tablets, Yuki makes an unexpected decision!
