Jamie King (Jamie Foxx) is an aspiring musician from Houston, Texas who has come to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. He then puts his career on hold to work in his family's hotel The King's Tower, which is owned by his Uncle Junior King (Garrett Morris) and his Aunt Helen King (Ellia English). He has two co-workers: The sexy, smooth talking Fancy (Garcelle Beauvais), constantly wearing tight tops and short skirts, and the odd nemesis Braxton (Christopher B. Duncan), the straight man who generally serves as the brunt of Jamie's jokes.
