In between the big jobs orchestrated by Bobby, the others take on side work to pass the time. When Tom and Jeff, who have been burglarizing houses during dinner parties, find out that Annie can sell a $700,000 signed baseball to a collector in Las Vegas, they steal it. However, upon discovering that Annie is having a relationship with the buyer, Tom jealously ruins the sale. Meanwhile, suspecting that Charlie is double-crossing him, Bobby accepts his next job from a contact in Montreal. And Dodd figures out that the Smith crew has been hindering his investigation by planting false clues at crime scenes and placing decoy evidence in remote locations.

As the team members continue to plot their next job, which involves stealing a huge load of gold, Bobby strategizes how to keep his double life a secret from Hope by somehow seeming to be in two places at once. Just as he's leaving to meet up with the gang in Reno, he realizes that Hope is attempting to catch him in a lie, and he must change directions and head to a business convention in Houston. Meanwhile, Bobby recruits a new technical expert, and the others in the crew put him to the test. Bobby also visits the deceased Shawn's former bookie, who has been harassing Shawn's widow for unpaid debt, and makes him an offer he can't refuse.
