JOSH, KAT, BERTO and extreme sports star JEREMY MCGRATreturn to the command van after a supercross event, only to discover the vehicle's been booby-trapped with a tamper-proof bomb, and they have been locked inside! Josh must transform into Max, revealing his secret to Jeremy, in order to rip off the van's door and save everyone. Then, the group is chased by ATTACK DRONES, and wind up trapped by PSYCHO inside an METAL CONTAINER, which is THROWN INTO THE OCEAN. TEAM STEEL and JEREMY are left to die, the depth of the ocean is too great to break out of the container, and their air is running out. Max, Kat and Berto explain their secret agent history to Jeremy about (via FLASHBACK CLIPS), as the water pressure begins to crush the metal container with all of them inside. But when all hope seems to be lost, Berto comes up with a wild plan that involves Max punching his way through the container and the ocean floor, releasing a hydrothermal vent that will shoot them to the surface.

When a PRISON TRANSPORT PLANE carrying THREE DANGEROUS CONVICTS drops off the radar, TEAM STEEL discovers that it has been stolen by PSYCHO, who plans on robbing the Federal Reserve with the help of these escaped criminals. Meanwhile, Kat is reunited with ROXANNE HUNTER, a person from Kat's troubled past who wants to rekindle their old friendship. We learn Kat has a criminal past she's been trying to put behind her, and after she decides to give Roxanne a second chance, Roxanne betrays her forcing Kat to admit her secret to Josh and Berto. At the same time, TEAM STEEL tracks Psycho and the CONVICTS to a remote West Texas landing strip, where Max, Kat and Berto manage to recapture the escaped convicts. Max and Psycho then battle it out in Psycho's private plane, but Psycho winds up falling overboard, leaving behind only his CLAW.

Team Steel helps bike stunt legend MAT HOFFMAN when someone ransacks his hotel room and then tries to kidnap him. It turns out that Mat has become the unwitting courier of a secret microchip, planted inside a bandage DOCTOR ALEX CLANCY put on his arm after a BMX COMPETITION ACCIDENT. That microchip contains information on a deadly new germ warfare virus that Clancy discovered while working for the government and then stole. Now, VITRIOL is after the chip? after Mat Hoffman. Meanwhile, BERTO suffers an inferiority complex, feeling like an outsider on his own Team when he sees how Josh and Kat interact with Hoffman. Berto believes he's only good for fixing stuff, and isn't "one of the gang." Eventually, Team Steel gives the microchip to NTEK, saves Mat from Vitriol's attacks, and Berto gains belief in himself when Josh gets wounded and Berto must compete in a go-cart race to help Team Steel win the overall gold medal.

While Josh is out racing the WAVE STORM through an inlet that cuts through the SOUTH AMERICAN JUNGLE, the pontoon boat crashes and Josh is stranded. Suddenly, Josh morphs into Max and finds himself attacked by a PACK OF SNAKES with acid-like venom, which FRIES his BIO-LINK? causes him to get stuck in Max Mode. As Max escapes, he finds himself HUNTED BY UNSEEN ATTACKERS. Meanwhile, Berto is sick with a cold and Kat is left behind to take care of him, but she has no maternal instincts and no sympathy for anyone who's sick. Back in the jungle, unning for his life, Max ultimately discovers he's being tracked and hunted by BIOCON, who wants to infect Max with a new strain of venom that will turn Max Steel into a mutant reptile, just like his nemesis. Max eventually escapes, and with the help of Berto and Kat who launch a search for their friend, BioCon is pushed over the edge of a massive gorge.
