Dangerous Beauty

For their Foundation Challenge, the contestants meet in the woods where they learn they'll be creating werewolf trauma wounds on their models. Sam Huntington, star of Syfy's hit Being Human, judges the challenge. Later, the contestants are stunned when they return to the lab and see it filled with dangerous plants and animals including a rhino, bear, leopard, wolves, cobalt tarantulas, poisonous dart frogs, a water monitor and snakes. For the Spotlight Challenge, the contestants are paired into teams and must select one animal and one plant to serve as inspiration for an original creature that is not only beautiful, but also deadly. On the Face Off reveal stage, actress Vivica A. Fox joins the judges' panel for the challenge results and greets the contestants. After the elimination, the contestants are stunned when host McKenzie Westmore tells them the night isn't over yet and she has a surprise waiting for them...

Night Terrors

The contestants are awakened in the middle of the night and told to depart for a mystery location. They arrive at Linda Vista Community Hospital, an abandoned hospital in Los Angeles that is believed to be haunted. For their Spotlight Challenge, each contestant selects a phobia (razors, electricity, parasites, etc.) and must then create a horror villain that personifies that fear. For inspiration, the contestants are then sent to eerie hospital rooms to work on their individual designs in the dark. At the lab, the contestants are ecstatic to meet guest judge and horror icon, Tom Savini (Day of the Dead). Later, when the characters are revealed on the Face Off stage, one insecure contestant achieves a stunning triumph, while two cocky contestants completely crash and burn. GUEST JUDGE: Tom Savini.

Water World

Contestants arrive at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific and learn their Spotlight Challenge is to select a fish that serves as inspiration for an original sea creature makeup. But there's a twist: the creatures will be unveiled in a massive water tank on stage in front of the judges. The teams immediately get to work trying to create make-ups that are not only beautiful but also waterproof. While most teams quickly find a common ground, one bickering team struggles. It all leads to the most dramatic makeup reveals yet with the contestants watching nervously as their sea creatures are completely submerged in water. Several of the creatures are stunning triumphs but one is a disaster the moment it hits the water.

In the second season premiere of Syfy's hit reality competition series, Face Off, fourteen special effects make-up artists meet at the Universal Studios backlot and are presented with their first Foundation Challenge -- to create an original character from head-to-toe using items they find in make-up, wardrobe and prop trailers. The contestants meet at the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood and learn their Spotlight Challenge is to completely recreate four classic charactersm -- the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion and Wicked Witch of the West -- from L. Frank Baum's classic novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Next, the contestants are informed that they'll be competing in two teams -- the men versus the women. It all leads to a spectacular finish on the Face Off Reveal Stage where completely re-imagined versions of these iconic characters are unveiled, and the first contestant is eliminated.

Twisted Tales

In the final spotlight challenge, the remaining three contestants are assigned a classic fairy tale such as Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs. They must create two characters inspired by one of the tales, and place them in a fully art directed scene. For the final judging, the fairy tale tableaus are put on display in a cocktail party setting, and the winner of Face Off is revealed.

The families of the five remaining competitors are stationed in a local Los Angeles wig shop in order to play a part in this week’s spotlight challenge. The contestants will have to disguise themselves and interact with their family members without being discovered.

For this week’s spotlight challenge, the contestants must craft an original zombie. Their design must not only be creative, it must be functional and able to withstand the rigors of performing a choreographed dance routine. The final results are revealed in an eerie cemetery scene as the zombies perform a dance in front of the judges. Guest judging is Greg Nicotero, Academy Award winning artist on The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The artists pay a visit to the backlot of Universal Studios and the iconic Psycho House, where they meet Sean Cunningham, director and producer of the original Friday the 13th. For the spotlight challenge, the contestants must first create an original horror villain, and then collaborate with a production designer to create a movie poster with an original title and tagline. Sean Cunningham joins the judges to critique the results.

For the spotlight challenge, the artists visit the famous Star Trek television series filming location, Vasquez Rocks, in Southern California. While there, they are given details on their next challenge from legendary FX artist Michael Westmore, best known for his make-up work in various Star Trek productions. Their assignment is to imagine and create a creature that would inhabit a newly discovered planet. Details on the planet’s features including environmental, geological and meteorological data are given to the contestants, who must work in teams of two to complete the challenge.

Face Off is a reality competition series set in the magical world of special effects and make-up artistry. The series introduces twelve of the brightest up-and-coming special-effects make-up artists, who meet in Los Angeles for their first elimination challenge. Their task is to imagine an entirely new species - an human/animal hybrid - based on one of three exotic animals that are brought into their workspace lab. Judging the series is multiple Academy-award winner Ve Neill, famed special make-up effects artist Glenn Hetrick and director and creature designer Patrick Tatopoulos. McKenzie Westmore hosts the series.
