Equal Justice follows the personal and professional lives of the men and women in Pittsburgh’s District Attorney's office. The show focuses on Arnold Bach, the politically correct, by-the-books district attorney; Gene Rogan, the deputy D.A. and Chief of the Felony Bureau; Gene's supportive wife Jesse; Linda Bauer, head of the Sex Crimes Unit; Linda's younger brother, Peter, a local public defender; Michael James, the department's top prosecutor, and eager new attorneys, JoAnn, Briggs, Julie, and Christopher. In the pilot episode, several courtroom stories which are presented interactively. One, which threatens the racial stability of the entire city, involves the trial of four white policemen accused of beating and killing a black youth on the street. In another case, the head of the Sex Crimes Unit prepares a young rape victim for her testifying at her attacker's trial. In a third case, a young lawyer handling his first major case, one involving a drug-related murder, loses crucial evidence, but still manages to get a conviction.
