Unusual Alias, Part 2
aired: Fri, May 15, 2009
Jarod continues to explore animals with unusual names and characteristics. The Seahorse isn’t a horse but a fish, with “ears” that are really pectoral fins and a tail like a monkey’s to hold onto seaweed. The Kinkajou, nicknamed the Honey Bear, isn’t a bear at all. Porcupines are sometimes called Quill Pigs, while the Cougar, known as the Puma, Mountain Lion or Panther, has over 40 names just in English. The Fisher is a member of the Weasel family who doesn’t eat fish at all but small mammals. And the Hellbender, nicknamed the Snot Otter or the Allegheny Alligator, is actually a giant member of the Salamander Family. While the Tailless Whip Scorpion may sound dangerous, he’s neither a Scorpion or venomous, but is really a blind Cave Spider that uses his sensitive legs to help him find his way in the dark.

Size Matters
aired: Fri, May 15, 2009
Meet some of nature’s giants. From the African Elephant, the world’s largest living land animal, to the Indian Rhinoceros, Jarod introduces some ginormous animals. Aztec is a King Vulture and member of nature’s clean-up crew who lives in Central and South America. Goliath is an 80-year-old member of the Galapagos Tortoise family, in which adult males can weigh up to 600 pounds. The beautiful blue Hyacinth Macaw is known as a “gentle giant” for its fun-loving, social habits. Jarod gets to box with Sheila, a baby Red Kangaroo who might grow up to be six feet tall and weigh almost 200 pounds. And we learn that Hummingbirds, one of the smallest species in the world, have the largest hearts in relation to their body size.

Animals with Attitude
aired: Fri, May 15, 2009
Think you’ve seen divas with difficult dispositions? Well, check out this episode if you want to meet some animals with serious attitude. The King Cobra is an aggressive striker who not only can kill in a single bite but he doesn’t give a second thought to eating fellow cobras. And meet the Mandrill, a primate whose toothy grin is a threat rather than a friendly gesture. Jarod also introduces the Fisher, a small mammal related to the Weasel and one of the only predators that attacks Porcupines by biting their faces! Jarod goes swimming with Sand Sharks and learns that they have the most powerful jaws on the planet. He also advises on safety precautions to take while camping in bear country.
Episode 10
Animals in the Nose
aired: Fri, May 15, 2009
In this episode, Jarod explores animals who rely on their sense of smell or who definitely have some pretty peculiar proboscises. Meet these Cyrano de Bergerac’s of the wild kingdom, like the Coatimundi, whose long flexible nose helps him dig out his lunch under layers of leaves, or the Vietnamese Long-Nose Snake whose horn-like projection gave him his other name, the Rhino Rat Snake. The Unicorn Tang Fish has – you guessed it – a horn with no practical use, while birds such as the Toucan and the Chilean Flamingo have schnozzes that help them to get a snootful of food. Jarod also visits “Seabreeze,” a bottle-nosed dolphin who doesn’t use his snout to breathe but does use it defend against sharks.
Episode 9
Unusual Alias, Part 1
aired: Fri, May 15, 2009
Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? In this episode, Jarod explores animals with unusual names. Chameleons, the ultimate disguise artists, change color to blend into their surroundings. The Walking Stick and Leaf Insect are aptly named bugs whose appearance helps them to survive. But the Bearcat, who smells like buttered popcorn, is neither a bear nor a cat! Sugar Gliders are known for their sweet tooth and their ability to fly through the treetops. Starfish are not fish, and Horseshoe Crabs are not crabs and while Prairie Dogs may live on the prairie, they’re Rodents, not Dogs. But no matter what you call them, these animals are fascinating and fun!

We see one of nature’s most beautiful creatures—the Butterfly—and learn how they adapt to their environment. The Western Lowland Gorilla is intelligent, eats almost all the time, and babies have a gestation period of nine months, just like humans. Meet the smartest monkey in the world, the Capuchin, who can be trained to help quadriplegics perform tasks like turning the pages of a book or turn on the lights. Jarod get to play with twin baby Orangutans, only the third set to survive in captivity. But the animal most like us? The Chimpanzee.
