A Question of Genius
A Question of Genius is a game show hosted by Kirsty Wark and produced by BBC Scotland. Each week there is a pool of an unspecified number of contestants. 8 of these contestants play each day. Although, it's not shown how it's determined, this seems to be referred to as the first round in the show. A behind the scenes first hand account describes the game starting with 10 contestants and the first 8 to answer a question correctly passing through to the next round; this was filmed but removed in editing.
